Welcome to Caroline"s Closet!

Thanks for visiting! Here, you will find a sampling of the clothes I've made for my daughter, Caroline, and my clients. I love to hear what people think about my designs and I love to hear about what you are sewing! While I am no longer able to accept orders for custom sewing, I'll try to continue to post recently completed projects.

Happy sewing!

Fringed Wool Skirt

I made this cute little skirt last week in a class at Children's Corner (pattern designed and taught by Susan Whitman). Children's Corner has a wonderful selection of Italian wools this fall, and this project is a great way to make use of these luxurious fabrics without breaking the bank. It's also a clever use for a short remnant. You only need to buy enough fabric to cover the length of the skirt (in this case-for a size 4-about a third of a yard). The lined skirt wraps across the front, buttons at the top with two mother-of-pearl shank buttons and is fringed at the front side and bottom edges. The lamb applique is constructed of a boiled wool and embellished with hand-embroidery. I purchased an off-white sweater to go with this, along with some off-white tights and brown English sandals. I love this preppy look!
