Welcome to Caroline"s Closet!

Thanks for visiting! Here, you will find a sampling of the clothes I've made for my daughter, Caroline, and my clients. I love to hear what people think about my designs and I love to hear about what you are sewing! While I am no longer able to accept orders for custom sewing, I'll try to continue to post recently completed projects.

Happy sewing!

The Easter Dress, 2009

I made this dress twice this year, once for a client and again for Caroline. The pattern is Collars Etc. Lillian. Both dresses are made from Swiss batiste, trimmed in tatting and entredeux and hand embroidered at the front. The version I made for my client was in blue with ecru trim and Caroline's was in pink with white trim. I love the way both versions turned out and the dress was absolutely perfect for Easter.
However, I doubt I will use this pattern again. It involved ALOT of hand sewing, which I don't normally mind, but it was, without a doubt, one of the most difficult applications of entredeux (between the yoke and the skirt) that I have ever done. I thought it might get easier on the second dress, since I had already done it once...unfortunately that was not the case. The yoke of this dress is an interesting design concept, but in reality, it just doesn't go together very well. Oh well, live and learn-not all patterns are created equally. It certainly didn't take away from how much I enjoyed seeing Caroline wear the dress on Easter morning.
