Welcome to Caroline"s Closet!

Thanks for visiting! Here, you will find a sampling of the clothes I've made for my daughter, Caroline, and my clients. I love to hear what people think about my designs and I love to hear about what you are sewing! While I am no longer able to accept orders for custom sewing, I'll try to continue to post recently completed projects.

Happy sewing!

Embellished T-Shirt and Tiered Skirt

I know, you thought I fell off the face of the earth, right? Thank you for your concern and to those of you that inquired after my well being! Things are good, just ultra busy these days. I'm finding less time to sew (hence, less time to blog), but the other things that are filling my time are certainly worthwhile and just as fun. Our family is simply reaching a point where we are on the go more and at home less. I do still plan to maintain this blog and post my latest projects. However, I have cut back on sewing for clients quite a bit. I hope all my readers will continue to check back, chat with me and share your love of children's clothing!
So without further ado, here's one of the outfits I've made recently:
This outfit started with a simple tee from Target. I had picked up a few last fall with intentions to add some fun embellishments and appliques. They always make great play clothes. Nevertheless, the tees sat on my studio shelf all winter and I finally decided to do something with at least one of them. So I started digging through my scraps, looking for some pieces that might make nice yo-yo flowers. When I realized that I had enough of three coordinating Freshcut fabrics to make a tiered skirt, I just couldn't stop myself! The t-shirt project that was supposed to take half an hour turned into an outfit that I happily allowed to take over my afternoon! The end result has been a great spring outfit for us. Perfect for those days when it's a little warm, but you still need to partially cover legs and arms. Caroline loves how "twirly" the skirt is and the bright colors suit her current style preferences.
I used my own formula to make the skirt and added some rick rack at the top of each tier. The tee embellishment is made from three yo-yos, coordinating buttons and some green ribbon and rick rack. Easy Peasy. Who knew that a $5 t-shirt could end up so cute? More posts and more outfits coming soon!
